Mindset Shift for Anxious Women in Business
Anxious? A Mindset Shift for Babes in Bus
Entrepreneurship can be an incredibly rewarding journey, but it can also be a source of anxiety and self-doubt.
As you work to build and scale your business, it’s essential to have the right mindset for success.
Today, I want to talk about how to let go of anxiety beliefs that might be holding you back and share a system that has helped me push through these challenges.
Every stage of growth in your business will likely bring new fears and discomforts — this is completely normal.
Growth, by nature, is uncomfortable, but it’s necessary if you want to reach the ambitious goals I know you have.
Understanding Anxiety Beliefs
Anxiety beliefs are those negative thoughts and doubts that creep into your mind when you’re about to start something new or take your business to the next level. These beliefs can be powerful enough to stop you in your tracks if you don’t address them. The first step in overcoming them is to identify what they are.
When you’re feeling down or unsure, it’s easy to let these negative thoughts take over. But it’s important to recognize them for what they are — just beliefs, not facts. By bringing these thoughts into the light, you can start to dismantle them and prevent them from holding you back.
Busting Negative Self-Talk
One exercise I’ve found incredibly helpful is writing down these anxiety beliefs. On one side of a sheet of paper, list any negative thoughts that pop into your head. These are the limiting beliefs that might stop you from being successful. It might feel counterproductive to focus on these negative thoughts, but it’s an essential step in overcoming them. By getting them out of your head and onto paper, you can begin to tackle them one by one.
For example, when I was starting out, I had thoughts like:
• “I don’t have enough content to sustain my social media platforms.”
• “I’m not going to earn any money with this.”
• “People are going to talk badly about me.”
• “What will my colleagues think?”
These thoughts were real for me, and they might be for you too. Take a moment to think about what your anxiety beliefs are and write them down. Once you have them in front of you, you’re ready for the next step.
Finding Solutions to Anxiety Beliefs
Now that you’ve identified your anxiety beliefs, it’s time to tackle them. On the other side of the sheet, write down solutions to these negative thoughts. Ask yourself: What do these beliefs really mean? Are they based on facts, or are they just fears? Do they truly impact the life you want to live?
For each anxiety belief, counter it with a positive solution or a more realistic perspective. Here’s how I did it:
• For my belief that I didn’t have enough content, I reminded myself that I could research, build a strategy, and repurpose content to ensure I never ran out of ideas.
• When I doubted whether I could make money, I told myself that if others have done it, I could too. Success is often about modeling what works.
• To combat the fear of people talking badly about me, I reminded myself that those who judge are often not the ones achieving their own goals. True friends and family will support you, and anyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter.
• As for worrying about what my colleagues thought, I knew deep down that my future didn’t lie in my corporate job, so their opinions weren’t relevant to the life I wanted to create.
By reframing your anxiety beliefs, you take away their power. Write down your solutions, and keep this exercise handy. It’s something you can return to whenever those negative thoughts start creeping back in.
Moving Forward with Confidence
As an entrepreneur, your mindset is one of your most powerful tools. Busting these negative beliefs isn’t just important for your personal well-being, but it’s essential for your success as a business owner. Remember, it’s okay to feel scared and uncertain — growth isn’t easy. But by addressing these beliefs head-on, you can push through the discomfort and keep moving forward.
Make it a habit to revisit this exercise whenever necessary. Keep your focus on the journey ahead, and don’t let anxiety beliefs hold you back from smashing your goals. You’ve got this, and I’m here cheering you on every step of the way.
Thanks for reading, and remember — your future is bright. Keep your mindset strong, and success will follow.
